Siurung Village, Lamjung

Siurung is very beautiful and it is not less in beauty and attractions as compared with other tourist destinations. Apart from these one can enjoy the unobstructed views of mountain peaks of the Annapurna range from Siurung village. Similarly the clustered houses in the Gurung village are another attraction is Siurung. Above of them all is the simplicity and hospitability of the local people who treat visitors like their own family members. Siurung village is a superb Gurung village in Lamjung distict. The village is rich of a typical Gurung cultures, traditions , rituals. It is situated in the ward no. 8 & 9 of Khudi VDC of Lamjung. There is a Marshyangi river in the east, Thurchu Fant (bottom of Dudhpokhari) Khuiji stream of Thurchu Fant in north west, Siurung stream & Nandro village in the west, thakan -6 of Khudi vdc in south & Kalaghiri-9 of Tankrin VDC in the north.

The village is situated about at the altitude of 1854 meters heights from the sea level. The minimum & maximum temperature of the village is -70c to 250c. Rain fall alsways takes places in the month of May to October. There are 138 households altogether in the village. Among them 131 house holds are Gurungs & the rests are the Dalit. The village is steping to a rural tourism village of organic village. There are the group of womens named Janabikas Ama Samunha & Shila Devi Youth Club. There are five Rhodhi ghar such as Laligurans Rodhi Pariwar, Danfe Rodhi Pariwar, Milijulu Rodhi Pariwar, Gairi Rodhi Pariwar, Shora Rodhi Pariwar, Shila Devi Rhodi Pariwar. Rodhi is a tradion found in the Gurung communities.

There are more plehmain Tamu in the Siurung village. The phewali Phachyu of Siurung village have been doing as a Gurung priests (Clehpri) who perform all the rituals of Gurung. There are 6 households of Pahchyus.

There is a Latha Kunja Lower Secondary School in Siurung as well as a medical as a health center run by Janabikash Ama Samunha, Siurung.
Mt. Manasalu (8,163 m)
Mt. Manaslu (8,163m / 26,781ft) Located 28.32.58 longitude and 83.33.43 latitude Manaslu is situated in the central region of Nepal in the Gorkha massif is the eighth highest mountain in the world. The name Manaslu was derived from the Sanskrit word "Maanas" meaning "soul" or "intellect". Japanese were the first to climb Manslu Mountain in 1956, therefore it is still considered as Japanese peak by many people. Though there are many routes to Manslu mountaineering , as the long ridge Manaslu base camp and valley glacier offer feasibility to approach from different directions, but South Face is considered to be the most difficult. Our caravan route to this mountain begins from Gorkha to Samagaon and the return route via the Larky La/ Larky pass trekking to the Annapurna classic route , making the expedition one of the memorable one for Mt. Manaslu climbing.

Ngadi Chuli (also known as Peak 29, Dakura, Dakum, or Dunapurna) is a high peak in the Mansiri Himal (or Manaslu Himal), also known as the Gurkha Massif, in Nepal. It is flanked by Manaslu to the north and Himalchuli to the south.

Doing Shendi: The Shendi is done by Gurung Priests to eliminate such bad things which may stick on the body of guests those who are coming or going out from the village.

It can be said that searching the mushrooms in the jungle is a kind of festival because all the members of villagers go to the jungle to collect mushrooms in the month of August to October (Bhadau & Ashoj). There are three types of mushrooms are collected:

  • White Mushroom ( Nauru Chyanhbo)
  • Yellow Mushroom (Patimu)
  • Red Mushroom (Nau Sim Chyanhbo)
Nabu Taha (Lakali Vegitable)

The Lekali Sagh can be found at the altitude of 2500 meters height from the sea level or above this hieght. The vegitables are carried with the roots in the month of December to February. The members of Rhodhi Ghar (boys & girls) go to search the Lekali vegitables on Jesth 15 (i.e. 29th of May). They return back to village on 16th Jestha onely. The Girls group carried vegitables in her kramun(which is used by girls to cover head) & the boys group help to carry. It is a tradition to give the foods such as Rhoti, curry of Nagu Taha, wine (Nare Paa) to the Boys by the group of girls on 17th of Jestha.

First of all, I would like to thanks Prem brother who kept the informations of Siurung Village as well as shooting report of a Gurung film AAKRODO which was shooted in Siurung with the photographs....
